All dissection in this course must be carried out with the idea that at the end of each day the skin will be brought back into apposition (or nearly so) to help slow the drying process. We recommend that all dissection groups use a uniform method of specimen closure to allow for easier access for group study sessions and exam preparation. Please use the method described in the next paragraph.
Make paired punctures about 1" from the free margin of the skin edge (think of it like a snakebite with the two piercing fangs). Next, make paired piercings in the same location on the opposing skin flap. Insert a single length of string from the medial side through both of the punctures and tie a surgical knot on the outside. Repeat this procedure at the opposing pair of piercings. Knotting the ends of the resulting double strings together keeps them from fraying. Now the loose double strings from opposing piercings can be tied like shoe laces.
